Well it seems like they don't have the same way of dealing with car accidents in South Africa as we do here in Sweden. They just waive people past whilst clearing up. This is what we encountered when leaving Johannesburg late at night, driving to Kruger Park. It was a scary drive, there were bush fires all around us and signs along the road which said "For your own safety, do not stop!".
Then there were some police on the side of the road and a little pile up of cars, but they soon let us past. I looked out trying to see what had caused the hold up.
- Oh my god there is a dead person! I exclaimed.
Probably one of the many people running across the road that had been hit by a car. Just lying there by the side of the road.
There were not too many proper crossings and people literally would just run across the road in front of you. Scary stuff and very sad, but apparently it happens all the time over there.
This was another accident we were allowed to drive past...
...you can see the driver sitting there, luckily he seemed to be ok.
In Sweden they wouldn't have let you pass until this was all cleared.
